  2. Capcom's Marvel vs. Capcom 2 started out as a Naomi-based arcade fighting game back in 2000. The game was later ported to the Dreamcast in an almost perfect translation, with graphics that melded.

A downloadable edition or the classic fighter, Marvel VS Capcom 2 pits some of Capcom's familiar faces against a host of Marvel Comic's biggest names in explosive three-on-three team battles.

You would not believe how many hours I have spent with Marvel vs Capcom 2 over the years. No matter if it is the Dreamcast, Xbox 360 or even right here. This is a game that I always have had a great time with and it is one of the most popular fighting games of its generation or a very good reason.

How Many Characters?

One of the things that the last two Marvel vs Capcom games have struggled with is the roster. Not that they were bad, they were just never able to live up to the 56 characters that Marvel vs Capcom 2 boasted. This roster is stacked to the max. Both the Marvel and Capcom side is awesome.

You have various Avengers, X-Men and Spider-Man characters as well as people from franchises such as Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Mega Man, Resident Evil and more. Each character has various colors as well so the roster is the most diverse the series has ever seen.

3 vs 3 Combat

What really makes Marvel vs Capcom 2 so fondly remembered is the combat. This is a fighting game where you pick any three characters you want to form a super team. Each battle requires that you defeat all three characters from the opposing team. You can call in other characters to help you during a battle, tag in and tag out and you can produce these epic super combos that are just spectacular to look at as well as do. What I really like about this game is that it is the kind of game anyone can play. The controls are actually quite simple so that makes it a game that anyone can pick up and have fun with. On the flip side of this, you can also get very, very in-depth with the combat. This is a game that has some serious depth to it if you want to learn it properly. No matter how serious you get about the game one thing that is for sure is that you will be having a great time.

Flashy And Awesome!

I still think that Marvel vs Capcom 2 is a fantastic looking game. The characters all look great and some of them (Venom always springs to mind) have phenomenal animation that will really knock your socks off. The stages as well are great. Each stage has some awesome effects to it. My only gripe is that there are not enough of them. There are not a ton of stages so you do cycle through them pretty quickly, thankfully the stages that are here are very well done.

While the presentation is great and full of flash and special effects. One area that is a bit of a let down is the endings. There are no character-specific endings in this game which is rather disappointing if I am being honest.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2021

As you have probably guessed, I love Marvel vs Capcom 2. It is a fighting game that is just so much fun to play. No matter if you are just messing around with friends on a game night or if you are wanting to get serious and go pro! This is a game that it is impossible not to have a wonderful time with.

Pros:

  • Over 50 characters to choose from
  • Fun and exciting gameplay
  • Playing against friends is a lot of fun
  • While easy to play, it does have a lot of depth
  • The presentation is incredible

Cons:

Marvel vs capcom 2 app
  • I do wish there were a few more stages
  • No character-specific endings
Overall rating: 9

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 Ps3

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 holds an odd yet important place in the history of the FGC for being one of the premier games to help keep the scene going at a time when Capcom wasn't making new fighting games while also being one of the most busted titles ever in terms of character balance.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2

Justin Wong, a seven-time Evo champion in MvC2, recently released a new tier list for the 21-year-old crossover fighter with a bit of a twist.

Instead of the standard S tier, A tier, etc. rankings, Wong decided to go with the ratio system, which rates characters in a limited team composition format of competition.

Going by Justin's system, players have seven points available to build a team with the most busted fighters taking up five points to make it so they can't have a squad of Magneto, Sentinel and Storm like you'd see at a regular tournament — and they'd need to include some weenies to make it work.

All of that being said, only six characters are in Wong's five-point rank, and it doesn't include some staples you'd probably expect like Dr. Doom and Cyclops.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 Ps2

While he's amazing in some of the other Marvel fighting games, Wolverine is actually put at the bottom of the one-point category, which Wong explains is simply because he can't really get anything off of divekick in MvC2 for some reason.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 Dreamcast

There's only one fighter who sits even below that at zero points, but we'll let you guess who that is.

You can check out Justin Wong's full tier list and explanation video below, and let us know what team you'd make from his ratio ranks in the comments.
