For companies who are doing work under CSA Z662 the maintenance and management of procedure documents is a critical component to ensuring that pipelines are fabricated both efficiently and to a high quality, reducing the risk of weld related failures.

CSA W48 provides requirements for the classification and certification of welding consumables by itself or in conjunction with gas mixtures or fluxes as applicable. The standard provides all requirements on chemical and mechanical properties of the electrodes and acceptable manufacturing tolerances. In addition, CSA Standard W48 requires the manufacturer to implement a quality management system that provides instruction on how to manufacture, inspect, pack, store, label and ship these welding consumables.

Under CSA Standard W47.1, W47.2, W186 and W55.3, all CWB Certified Companies are required to submit their welding procedures to the CWB Group for review and approval in accordance with the governing standard. The approval of welding procedures must be obtained before the commence of any work, as outlined within the applicable Standard(s).
