If you install the C-media panel version you can still start the asus panel (start - all programs - uni xonar audio - xonar audio center). Here you can use the 'hammer' to set the gain. Afterwards exit the asus (xonar) panel again. I don't it's wise to install these drivers over the original ones. In my case it resulted in a BSOD.
